     Air Dates:  October 22 - November 26, 2021 & December 9, 2022 - January 13, 2023

Episodes: 24

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Starring: Lee Sun Bin and Choi Si Won

The Story

A variety show PD and her two college friends are living the life of single women in their 30's. And as they juggle the pressures and demands of work and dating, they rely on their friendship to keep them from falling into despair. Most days, the trio find themselves drinking together at their favorite bar and restaurant, where they had won free drinks for life back in university. But as life becomes more and more complicated for each of them, their relationships with each other will be challenged and they will be forced to make some important decisions about what is really important.

Meeting the stars: Lee Sun Bin and Choi Si Won

Lee Sun Bin as Ahn So Hee

Ahn So Hee grew up with a father who loved to live large and drink a lot. She learned to drink alcohol from him at an early age. But as she got older, she began to use drinking as an emotional crutch. In college, she enters a dancing contest offering free drinks for life at a local club. She decides to partner up with two of her competitors, who quickly become her best friends and favorite drinking buddies.

Now, as the trio enter their thirties, the club has become a small neighborhood bar and restaurant, but the owner still honors their life-long prize. So Hee works as a varitety show writer for a television station, and is known for her impulsive nature. But when a new PD,who is better known for his failures than successes, joins her team, she finds herself ridiculously drawn to his pathetic life choices. As the pair grow closer, they will have to decide if romance is really for them and if it is possible to balance work and attraction.

Ahn So Hee is positive and daring. She is known as the glue and sanest of their friend group, but she has her own struggles. A betrayal by her former boyfriend and a mother that could be emotionally distant, left her with trust issues and a desperate need for affirmation. Lee Sun Bin is a seasoned actress with great comic timing. This role was perfect for her, and she brought just the right amount of chaos to this friend trio.

Choi Si Won as Kang Buk Gu

Kang Buk Gu joins So Hee's team at the television station. As a PD, he is famous for knowing how to pick the wrong program. But he is passionate about his work and determined to get out of his current slump. He secretly has a crush on So Hee, based on an audition she did when she was just starting out. But So Hee doesn't remember him from that time and Buk Gu hides his feelings from her by fighting with her constantly.

But when So Hee's father dies suddenly, he finds himself going to her hometown to check up on her and breaking into her inner circle, by meeting her friends and mother. Slowly, Buk Gu begins to win So Hee's trust and affection. Buk Gu steps in as kind of a big brother to the trio of friends, keeping them safe and watching over them, particularly after long nights of drinking. But Buk Gu has his own past scars, and his fear to commit to So Hee may cost him any chance to have a future with her.

Kang Buk Gu is unkempt and clumsy. Even at work, he comes off as unorganized and rude. But his lax appearance and behavior stem from past rejections and a painful childhood. Choi Si Won is a fun actor who  seems to excel at these diamond in the rough roles. I especially enjoyed his interactions with Sun Hee's friends.

Supporting characters

Han Sun Hwa as Han Ji Yeon

Han Ji Yeon works as a yoga instructor. She is bubbly and ditsy. She has no real career aspirations, and enjoys taking life one day at a time. But when she faces a serious health crisis, her friends will drop everything to help her survive.

Jung Eun Ji as Kang Ji Gu

Kang Ji Gu is from a rich family, but she refuses to talk to them. She is a homebody who works as a youtuber folding origami for hours a day. Her brash, abrasive attitude often clashes with Ji Yeon, which is a constant source of friction between the trio.

A Comprehensive Look at Work Later Drink Now Seasons 1&2

Kim Jung Min as Hwang Dong Bae

Hwang Dong Bae is the man who owns the restaurant the women hang out in. He has watched them grow up from young college students to working women. He is a source of safety and stability and acts as a father figure for all of them.

3 things i loved about 'Work later Drink Now'

1.

Laugh Out Loud:

There aren't a lot of dramas that I find myself full-out laughing, but this one is an exception. This trio of ladies is so chaotic and fun, you just can't help but laugh at their ridiculous antics. The humor is smart and manages to pull back before becoming too slapsick, which I always appreciate. This feels a bit like Korea's answer to 'Sex in the City' and I loved the realistic, but comedic tone.

2.

Opposites Attract:

The combination of these three ladies together was gold. I loved how radically different they all were, and how originally, the only thing they have in common is drinking. But opposites really do attract, even in friendship, and they love and fight in equal measure.

3.

Yoga Siblings:

The whole story around Ji Yeon becoming a yoga instructor was fun. Her ability to disrupt the quiet calm of the studio was amusing and I loved how she befriended the owner and her brother. I liked that they took the time to develop Ji Yeon's friendship with them, and how the brother and sisters' story slowly unfolds.

3 things i didn't love about 'Work Later Drink Now'

1.

Season Two Vibe:

I felt like season two had a different feel from the first season. The pacing felt slightly off and because of that, the story didn't hold my interest quite as well. I think maybe they spent too much time on their mountain adventures, and that slowed everything else down. The concept was fun, but too much time was spent waiting for them to come back. Also saving the friendship drama for the very end seemed sudden and extreme.

2.

Lee Soo Min:

I didn't really understand the whole Soo Min story. First, I don't know that there was any reason to have some weird love triangle, that turned out to not exist at all. And then, to have her randomly turn out to be a childhood friend of Ji Yeon was even more weird. Especially since once they discover the fact, nothing really happens. Nothing about her character felt relevant or interesting to me.

3.

Buk Gu's Backstory:

Okay, first of all, I wish kdramas would stop with the ridiculous looking fat suits. Buk Gu's whole back story didn't really fit into the current story. The explanation felt rushed and unimportant. I was much more interested by the story that he fell for So Hee after she opened a bottle with her shoe. That kind of pining crush is comedy gold.

The Conclusion of 'Work Later Drink Now'

The Ending

'Work Later Drink Now' ends with the same silly energy it starts with. The ending is really just more new beginnings. We finish the series with some serious friend drama, but luckily all is resolved without much of a hitch and the ladies each decide to go off on their own adventures. But we meet up with them all again a year later at Dong Bae's wedding.

Han Ji Yeon has been traveling the world and has acquired a collection of handsome men along the way, one of them being Sun Kook, our handsome yoga photographer. She is happy in her polyamorous world and it shows. Ji Gu has also been traveling, but her approach is much more down to earth. She has been backpacking and seeing the sights with the adorable Mr. Nice Paper. So Hee is the only one who stayed close to home, working at the station and dating Buk Gu.

The final scene shows the group partying at the wedding reception. Always one to push the limits, So Hee climbs on a table to dance, and as the whole table collapses, sending her flying in slow motion, we get a last monologue. So Hee tells us that she is completely happy with her life, and if this is her end, so be it. And that's it. Of course, I hope So Hee doesn't ruin Dong Bae's wedding by actually dying at it, and I suspect she will live on to drink another day!

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Work Later Drink Now' is a chaotic romantic comedy that takes a realistic view of life as single, 30 year old women. The humor is clever and laugh out loud funny. Although the two seasons have a total of 24 episodes, each episode is only 30 minutes. So this is a great bingeable series! I loved how the three friends were all so different and quirky.

But this kind of raw humor might not be for everyone. Also, if you are the kind of person who can't watch excessive drinking without worrying endlessly about the state of Korean drinking culture, this is definitely not for you.  These gals drink...A LOT! But I enjoyed the light, humorous stories and the focus on friendship. I give 'Work Later Drink Now' an 8 out of 10 ramen.

The Story

A hard working single mom is shocked when her young adult daughter suddenly quits her job and runs away. But when she tracks her down in a sleepy country community, she is shocked to find not only her daughter but also her first love. At her daughter's request, the woman decides to put down roots there. And as they adjust to life in a small town, they will find new friends and new dreams. But her daughter's disappearance was more than just a momentary rebellion, and she will soon find that her daughter is hiding a heartbreaking secret.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Love Take Two' is a warm romantic drama about a single mom and her relationship with her daughter. It is a story of love, friendship, and community. The small town setting gives us a fun array of secondary characters, and the dual generation love stories are a sweet touch. This is a slice of life drama with a classic kdrama feel.

But the pace is slow and steady, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. This is a drama that is concerned more with people and relationships than action. This kind of life in a small town drama has been done plenty, and so the characters can feel cliche. But I loved the leads and the emphasis on finding healing through everyday life. I give 'Love Take Two' an 8 out of 10 ramen.

Meeting the stars: Yeom Jung Ah and Park Hae Joon

Yeom Jung Ah as Lee Ji An

Lee Ji An was a young women when her childhood friend died, leaving Ji An as the mother to her friend's infant daughter, Hyo Ri. Ji An has spent her adult life working hard and trying to be the best mother and role model possible. Now, with Hyo Ri on the brink of adulthood herself, the pair find themselves starting fresh in the small town of Cheonghae. And Ji An is shocked to find that her long lost first love also lives there.

After years of living only for Hyo Ri, Ji An may get a chance to experience love and romance for herself, with a second chance at first love. But their idyllic country life is shaken when Ji An learns that Hyo Ri has a serious and potentially fatal health condition. And her new community family will rally around them to offer their love and support.

Lee Ji An is hard-working and fiercely loyal. And although her persistence often feels more like needless nagging to Hyo Ri, she is a loving mother. But at this point in their lives, Hyo Ri wants to see her mother happy and living her own life. Yeom Jung Ah is a veteran actress with a long history, and I thought she was quirky and charming as this determined mother.

A Safe Peek at Love Take Two 2025

Park Hae Joon as Ryu Jeong Seok

Ryu Jeong Seok became a single dad when his wife left him and their young son, Bo Hyeon, to pursue her own career goals. Despite his shock at raising a son on his own, Jeong Seok has found success running his own architectural company and helping  Bo Hyeon become a hard-working and well-adjusted adult. Jeong Seok is surprised to learn that the newest resident in town is a woman who used to follow him around in high school, professing her love to him. Jeong Seok had been too shy then to confess that he was interested then, but fate may have given him a second chance.

Ryu Jeong Seok is quiet and reserved. He has a good relationship with his son, but it isn't always easy for him to express his thought and feelings clearly. But when he begins spending time with Ji An, she helps him get more in touch with his emotions. Park Hae Joon is a wonderful actor and I always enjoy his quiet, mature presence. I thought he was a great fit for this role.

Supporting characters

Choi Yun Ji as Lee Hyo Ri

Lee Hyo Ri is Ji An's daughter. She was a medical student because that is what Ji An wanted her to be. But when she is diagnosed with a serious illness, she worries about what her mother will do without her. So she quits her job and goes in search of her mother's first love.

Kim Min Kyu as Ryu Bo Hyeon

Ryu Bo Hyeon is Jeong Seok's son. He is also one of the first people Hyo Ri meets when her car breaks down in Cheonghae. And as they get to know each other, they find they have a lot in common. Bo Hyeon is the first person in town to find out that Hyo Ri is sick, which only deepens his feelings for her.

A Comprehensive Look at Love Take Two 2025

Kim Sun Young as Kim Seon Yeong

Kim Seon Yeong is Ji An's best friend. She has been there for Ji An through the years, helping her raise Hyo Ri and offering her friendship and support. When Ji An decides to stay in Cheonghae, Seon Yeong follows and opens her own restaurant, designed by Ji An.

A Comprehensive Look at Love Take Two 2025

3 things i loved about 'Love Take Two'

1.

Relationships:

There are so many great relationships and characters in this drama that it was impossible to pick a favorite. The parent/child relationship, both biological and found, the friendship of Ji An and Seon Yeong, the quirky romances, and the community bond; this drama had it all.And the slow, easy pace of the drama made these relationships bloom in a beautiful and natural way that I really enjoyed.

2.

Mansion:

I thought the way this drama used the transformation of the broken down old mansion as a symbol of the lead's emotional healing was a nice touch. If anything, I wish they had put more emphasis on this idea and let us see more of the gradual process.

3.

Family Tree:

As a long-time kdrama fan, I know the heartbreaking result of complicating a family registry. So I was so thankful to this drama that they had the town residents make a cheeky joke about it and then it was never mentioned again!

3 things i didn't love about 'Love Take Two'

1.

The Ex-Wife:

I'm always happy to see Oh Na Ra, but I'm not really sure why we needed the whole ex-wife story. It didn't really do anything to further the Ji An love story or effect Bo Hyeon's future much at all. I would have rather had that time to further some of the characters we already had instead of introducing a new one.

2.

Dementia Story:

I loved Jung Mun Hui's character and her surrogate mother relationship with Ji An was really precious. But it seemed like her symptoms of dementia were so serious in the beginning and then they just kind of disappeared. I didn't feel like the Mun Hui from the last half of the drama was anything like the struggling retired doctor we met in the beginning.

3.

Time Jump:

We all know how much kdramas love their time jumps. But this one didn't prove very satisfying to me. Of course, it was good to see that Hyo Ri was recovered and doing well. But once the surgery was sucessful, I think we could have all imagined she was healthy and fine. In fact, none of the follow-up stories felt that important or surprising. Maybe too much closure is not always a good thing.

The Conclusion of 'Love Take Two'

The Ending

'Love Take Two' ends with a warm, happy ending for everyone. Hyo Ri has her surgery, and although her recovery is rough at times, with her losing some of her verbal ability, the town rallies around her to help her heal. And as she takes the time to get better, she makes plans for her own future. Having seen medicine from the other side, she is ready to jump back into medical school.

A year later, we catch up with everyone. Not only are our two couples doing well, but the adults have also bonded with each others' children. Cheonghae and its residents continue to move on together, with Ji An and Seon Yeong firmly part of their community. New love is on the horizon for Seon Yeong and Tae O. Hyo Ri is killing it this time around in her medical program and Bo Hyeon has decided to do a two year program in Berlin. But their relationship is strong and they will be reunited once they each complete their educations. The final scene shows Ji An and Hyo Ri traveling together as they enjoy each others company.

The Story

A young director who has been in a 5 year slump decides to make his comeback by remaking his famous father's most well known masterpiece. And instead of casting a famous actress to play the role of the terminally ill heroine, he goes against all advice to hire a rookie actress who is actually dying. In the beginning, he sees his choice as the perfect future publicity stunt, but as he works with her, the lines between acting and real life become blurred.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Our Movie' is a beautiful, slow-burn romance. The visually stunning cinematography and the poignant dialogue give this drama a stirring, dreamlike quality. The cast is amazing and the story's realistic balance between hope and tragedy keep the plot engaging from start to finish.

But this is not meant to be a quirky rom-com. It's not for everyone. The subject matter is heavy and the character's journeys are heartbreaking. For those who are sensitive to topics of terminal illness and death, this drama may offer a little too much realism. But if you are looking for an emotional love story that gives a moving perspective of love and loss, this one is definitely a winner! I give 'Our Movie' a 9 out of 10 ramen.

Lee Je Ha is the son of a famous melodrama film director. While Je Ha's first major film was heralded as a huge success, some attributed his popularity more to his father's well-respected career than his own talent. But now, five years later, he hasn't been able to get over a directing slump. He is desperate for another box-office hit, so when an old friend and producer comes to him with a proposition to remake his father's greatest melodrama about a terminally ill woman he can't resist.

And as the project gets underway, a star actress from Je Ha's past steps forward to audition for the leading role. But it is an unknown rookie, Lee Da Eum, that manages to gain Je Ha's interest. And that is, in large part, because Da Eum is actually suffering from her own fatal illness. In the beginning, Je Ha sees Da Eum as a way to gain extra attention when the actress does eventually pass away. But as the pair spend time preparing and working together, they bond over similar childhood traumas and a love of cinema. And slowly the movie, written in secret by Je Ha's sick mother shortly before her death, becomes a love letter that tells his own painful romantic story.

Lee Je Ha has never believed in true love. So when he originally decides to make his father's film, he plans to make it a tragedy instead of a romance. But when he finds out that the movie was not written by his father after all, but by his dying mother, he begins to see the story and the idea of real love from a new perspective. I love Namkoong Min. He is such a talented and versatile actor, and I thought he was great in this role. He has an ability to portray such deep emotions and his quiet intensity fit this role perfectly.

A Safe Peek at Our Movie 2025

Jeon Yeo Been as Lee Da Eum

Lee Da Eum watched her mother suffer through a rare disease before dying at an early age. And she learned as a child that genetics can be both a blessing and a curse. Having a father who is a doctor has meant that she has always received the best care. But now, at 25, her time has run short.

So, when she hears that her favorite movie, that tells the story of a dying woman, is being re-made, she dreams of finally getting the chance to live her life-long dream of being an actress. And while she decides to keep her personal health a secret from the other cast and crew, she confides in Je Ha, who is understandably nervous about casting a lead who could die any day.

In the end, Je Ha sees the value in letting someone who has really lived the experience play the part. And as she lives out her final dream, Je Ha will step in to make sure his actress lives long enough to finish their masterpiece. And when she finds herself falling in love with the cynical Je Ha, she gets the chance to live out another dream, to experience love first hand.

Lee Da Eum is caring and optimistic. Since she was a child, she has understood the need to  live every day to the fullest and never take the blessings of life for granted. But with Je Ha, she also gets a chance to share her more painful emotions and fears as well. I have seen Jeon Yeo Been in several dramas, but her emotional performance in this drama was a pleasant surprise. I was so moved by her beautiful portrayal of this brave and tender character.

Supporting characters

Seo Hyeon Woo as Bu Seung Won

Bu Seung Won is a producer who has known Je Ha for years. It is his idea to re-make 'Love in White' and he gets the investors that make the project possible. But while Seung Won wants to help his old friend out of his slump, he is more concerned about the success of the film than any of the people involved.

A Comprehensive Look at Our Movie 2025

Lee Seol Chae as Seo Yeong

Seo Yeong is a star actress who played the lead in Je Ha's first movie. She is newly divorced and hoping for a role to rekindle her career. But while she expects to be cast as the lead, Je Ha gives her a supporting role.

A Comprehensive Look at Our Movie 2025

Oh Kyung Hwa as Kwak Gyo Yeong

Kwak Gyo Yeong is Da Eum's childhood best friend. Da Eum lives with Gyo Yeong and her mother, who have been like a family to her since she and Gyo Yeong were in elementary school.

A Comprehensive Look at Our Movie 2025

3 things i loved about 'Our Movie'

1.

Losing Friends:

I think one of the hardest things for long-term terminally ill patients must be to watch people they have met slowly succomb to their illnesses. I liked that the drama included this element with Kim Min Jeong. Her friendship with Da Eum and her mother's presence following Min Jeong's death were a very nice touch.

2.

Managing Emotions:

Let's face it.  This drama could have easily been an emotional bloodbath. But I really appreciated the fact that they handled this difficult subject with grace and restraint in all the right places.  For me, this was not a drama about death so much as about life, and while the sad emotions are all a part of the process, there were plenty of sweet moments along the way.

3.

Behind the Scenes:

It's always fun when a drama takes you behind the scenes of a film or series. They added some interesting details about what it looks like on set, the process of scouting and creating sets, and the down time that is inevitable.

3 things i didn't love about 'Our Movie'

1.

Chef or Manager:

So I understand that Jun Byeong's dream is to be a chef in his own restaurant. But whereas he seems to lack any real cooking skills, I felt like he made an excellent manager. So I was kind of disappointed when he gave up his manager job to go back to his kitchen.

2.

Don't Change the Ending:

This drama warned us all of where things were heading, but they also included the mention of clinical trials which left me with the tiniest sliver of hope. But at the point that Je Ha wants to change the ending so the heroine can live and Da Eum tells him not to, I knew there was no miracle cure waiting on the horizon. The moment felt so heavy with meaning, but I couldn't help being a little disappointed.

3.

Je Ha's Dad:

The mostly invisible presence of Je Ha's dad hangs heavy throughout this drama. It left me wondering if he was really as terrible as he seemed. I wish we had seen a bit more of Je Ha's relationship with him before his death and how Je Ha ended up hating him so much.

The Conclusion of 'Our Movie'

The Ending

There's no miracle or happily ever after for our leads in 'Our Movie'. The movie finishes filming and it's emotional for cast and crew alike as they see Da Eum act out the final goodbye to her onscreen love. We see some dates and sweet scenes between Da Eum and Je Ha, but when 'Love in White" finally premieres Da Eum's seat remains empty, although her name is there as one of the story contributors. And with that, we know that Da Eum is actually gone. Thankfully we are spared any gut-wrenching death scene, which I appreciate.

A year later, we catch up with everyone. We hear that Je Ha has been on hiatus for a year, as he takes the time to heal and reflect. Jae In and Gyo Yeong have become friends and spend time hanging out at Jun Byeong's restaurant. Hong has written her own script and follows in her mentor's footsteps, casting a rookie, much to PD Bu's dismay. And in her spare time, Hong is dating Jun Byeong. And while the couple stops in to visit Je Ha at his family home, Jun Byeong gives him a gift Da Eum left for him. It is a recording on her camcorder with Da Eum's goodbye message, telling Je Ha that she will always be near by whenever he thinks of her.

The final scene shows Je Ha back at work. And as a young actor questions his character's feelings of love, Je Ha carefully explains how love works with an authority that shows he finally believes that there is such a thing as true love, and that he plans to use that kind of love in his movies from now on.

The Story

After suffering two painful traumas, a woman develps Disassociative Identity Disorder (DID). For several years now, she has lived two full lives with no memories of each other. But when she starts to have unusual memory flashes, her lives suddenly begin to collide and the work of healing begins. As she gets to know more about her alternate personality and the people who have loved and supported her, she will be forced to make some difficult decisions about the life she will live from now and who she will share it with.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Dear Hyeri' is a romantic drama with a psychological focus. Shin Hae Sun did a wonderful job with this dual role. The story is engaging and the message of hope and healing is positive and motivational. The view into Disassociative Identiity Disorder gives an insightful perspective about mental health and trauma.

Unfortunately, the pacing can be inconsistent. Certain plot points and characters seem completely out of place and pointless. And while the female lead shone through the story, the male leads suffered from unlikable and undeveloped characters. While there were some weak points in the writing, I enjoyed the overall story and its examination of psychological disorders.  I give 'Dear Hyeri' a 7 out of 10 ramen.

Meeting the stars: Shin Hae Sun and Lee Jin Wook

Shin Hae Sun as Ju Eun Ho / Ju Hye Ri

Ju Eun Ho's world was rocked when her sister disappeared from a school field trip and was never seen again. And the trauma is triggered again when she goes through a painful break up with her boyfriend, Jung Hyeon O.

What is even worse is that she has to see Hyeon O at work every day, where they are both television announcers. On the surface they are intense rivals, but in truth neither one has moved on from their relationship. And when Eun Ho begins to remember things from her alternate personality, she will be forced to deal with not only her childhood scars but also her break up with Hyeon O and whether they will reconcile or say goodbye for good.

Following her break up with Hyeon O, Eun Ho develops DID and assumes the personality of her missing sister, Hye Ri. As Hye Ri, Eun Ho is fulfilling her sister's lifelong dream to live a simple life working as a parking attendant. Hye Ri has a secret crush on Kang Ju Yeon, who works in the building where she is an attendant. And she is thrilled when a chance encounter leads to them dating. When Hye Ri begins to remember her life as Eun Ho, she leaves Eun Ho a note begging her to surrender her own personality to Hye Ri, who has finally found happiness.

While Eun Ho is driven by success, Hye Ri is only interested in finding peace, happiness, and love. And as Eun Ho begins to realize the way she has been living her life as two separate personalities, she will look for ways to re-integrate the best parts of both of them. I thought Shin Hae Sun did a great job in this drama. Her portrayal of each part was distinct and believable.

A Safe Peek at Dear Hyeri 2024
A Safe Peek at Dear Hyeri 2024

Lee Jin Wook as Jung Hyeon O

Jung Hyeon O became a television announcer and his career quickly skyrocketed. Now he is a star anchor for PPS. He and Eun Ho had a long but volatile relationship before breaking up several years ago. Due to his own difficult family situation and his responsibility to take care of his aging "grandmothers", Hyeon O had always told Eun Ho that he never intended to marry, although he never shared his reasons with her. When Eun Ho tries to force his hand, he decides to just break up with her. But despite their break up, Hyeon O always hovers close by, trying to protect and care for Eun Ho however he can.

When Hyeon O finds out everything Eun Ho has been through since he left her, he is consumed by guilt and determined to help her find healing. He is also jealous when he hears that Eun Ho's alternate personality also has a boyfriend. And he promises to stand by Eun Ho while she deals with her mental health and the tragedies that led her to this place.

Jung Hyeon O grew up with a father who couldn't control his gambling. So when a tough loan shark offers to let him live with her if he can promise to take care of her and her friends in their approaching old age, he jumps at the chance to finally get away. But his rough start and the burden of his promise make him cold and distant. He doesn't open up easily, even after years of dating Eun Ho.  I really like Lee Jin Wook, but I wish we could have seen more repentance and growth from this character. I feel like he owed that to both Eun Ho and himself.

Supporting characters

Kang Hoon as Kang Ju Yeon

Kang Ju Yeon is a news announcer at PPS' rival station. Hye Ri has had a crush on him for a while, but they have never actually had any interactions until fate throws them together suddenly. Over time, he falls in love with Hye Ri and wants her to stay with him instead of surrendering herself to Eun Ho.

A Comprehensive Look at Dear Hyeri 2024

Jo Hye Joo as Baek Hye Yeon

Baek Hye Yeon works with Ju Yeon as a news announcer. She has feelings for Ju Yeon, but he has always been too busy and distant to actually notice her efforts to grow closer to him. He considers her more of a casual friend and co-worker. She is jealous when she finds out that Ju Yeon has fallen for Hye Ri..

A Comprehensive Look at Dear Hyeri 2024

Oh Kyung Hwa as Kim Min Yeong

Kim Min Yeong is Hye Ri's only real friend. The pair work together as parking lot attendants. Min Yeong is shocked when she finds out that Hye Ri has a whole other life and personality as Eun Ho.

A Comprehensive Look at Dear Hyeri 2024

3 things i loved about 'Dear Hyeri'

1.

Hye Ri:

I really enjoyed the fact that Eun Ho's alternate personality wasn't just some random character created in her imagination. She is the sister that Eun Ho loves and misses. And that made the telling of her story so much more interesting. It also made her saying goodbye at the end much more emotional than it would have been otherwise.

2.

Grandma Mi Ja:

Grandma Mi Ja was a fascinating and complex character to me. In a culture where it is assumed that your family will care for you in your later years, she had no one. Her offer to raise Hyeon O was not completely selfless, but it was also born out of a mutual need and potential affection. And more importantly, she grew to love him as if he was her own son.

3.

Kim Sin Jung:

It was fun to see a boss like Kim Sin Jung. Rather than the overbearing bully boss we often see in these kinds of dramas, Sin Jung was fair and caring to both Hyeon O and Eun Ho. He watched them fall in love and then suffer a devastating break-up, but he continued to protect and care for both of them in his own way.

3 things i didn't love about 'Dear Hyeri'

1.

Spitting Grandma:

I'm sorry, but I really couldn't deal with the grandma whose only personality trait was making disgusting spitting noises. And maybe I could have forgiven once or twice, but it felt like every single scene. It just felt so unnecessary.

2.

The Forest:

I love the mysterious forests of Korea, but the episodes where Eun Ho just goes to live there were weird and pointless. And in the end, her time there did nothing to move the story forward or change anything. It felt like wasted screen time to me.

3.

Moon Ji On:

Moon Ji On's whole character felt unneeded to me.  We already had a strange love "square". Why did we need someone else who was interested in Eun Ho? Even his role as Hyeon O's brother could have been taken care of withn his sister, Su Jeong's character, who had a lot more scenes with Hyeon O anyway. I don't understand why he was included in the drama at all.

The Conclusion of 'Dear Hyeri'

The Ending

'Dear Hyeri' ends with a mostly happy ending. Eun Ho continues with her therapy until her counselor says that Hye Ri is no longer showing up. This is both good and heartbreaking news. To lessen the pain of letting go, Eun Ho decides to look for closure by hosting a dinner that brings together all the people who were close to her and Hye Ri to tell her about Hye Ri and help her say goodbye. Hyeon O's grandmother's host the farewell dinner, and most of the family accept Eun Ho, with the exception of the jealous siblings. As dinner wraps up, Hyeon O proposes and Eun Ho says yes.

The final scene shows Hyeon O and Eun Ho going hiking in the forest together as they bicker over Eun Ho wanting a kiss. Many fans were disappointed that Eun Ho went back to Hyeon O without him ever really apologizing or seeming to change much. I held out until the end that maybe Hye Ri wasn't actually dead after all. I mean, if Eun Ho could find her way out of the forest, then couldn't Hyre Ri? But the mystery of her disappearance is never solved and the scenes in the forest remain mostly pointless.

And while the female lead shone through the story, the male leads suffered from unlikable and undeveloped characters. While there were some weak points in the writing, I enjoyed the overall story and its examination of psychological disorders.  I give 'Dear Hyeri' a 7 out of 10 ramen.

First, while she kept her body in its true age, her husband chose to live as a 30 year old. And while she is still reeling from their awkward age difference, she finds that her fiery temper and confrontational attitdude could still send her to hell if she isn't careful. And as the couple wrestle with unresolved pain from their time on earth, they will slowly begin to find healing.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Heavenly Ever After' is a fantasy romance drama about enduring love and healing. The couple's story is touching and the leads are wonderful together. It's great to see an older actress like Kim Hye Ja honored by being cast as a romantic lead. This drama provides one of the most interesting concepts of Heaven I have ever seen, and I appreciated this fresh approach.

But while there were elements I really loved, other parts of this drama were so quirky and weird that I just couldn't settle into it. Also, the series starts as a sweet love story, but it tackles some dark and difficult topics in the second half without any real warning. So, don't expect this to be a lighthearted rom-com. But I did love the journey of the leads and their heartwarming interactions.I give 'Heavenly Ever After' a 7 out of 10 ramen.

Her husband appears in a body almost 50 years younger than hers, she gets so many demerits that she is required to attend a church service with a fussy pastor as the only member, and a beautiful stranger appears whose only memory is Hae Suk's husband's name. But as she adjusts to her new surroundings, she learns that there are no coincidences in Heaven and many of the people she meets have some connection to her past.

Lee Hae Suk is quick thinking and sharp tongued. She spent years as a debt collector, being abused both physically and emotionally by angry clients. But Heaven is a place for letting go of our anger and frustration and finding healing. It isn't always easy or fun, but the outcome is true peace. Kim Hye Ja is a wonderful actress with a long list of successful roles. But it was great to see her play this character with all the spunk of a woman who has lived a long and fulfilling life. She was perfect in the part and I loved watching her.

Son Suk Ku as Ko Nak Jun

Ko Nak Jun lived a tragic life before dying ahead of his wife. So, while in Heaven, he anxiously waited for her to join him. But he is surprised that when she does, she is still in her 80 year old body, while he is in his 30's. But being with her is all he really cares about.

Nak Jun is shocked when a young woman he saved from being pulled out of the train in Hell shows up at their house. His name is her only memory, but Nak Jun soon realizes her true identity. She is a fractured piece of Hae Suk that occurred after the disappearance of their son. And he will sacrifice whatever it takes to help Hae Suk find healing and become whole again.

Ko Nak Jun is a dedicated husband and a kindhearted person. He spent his life trying to protect his wife, but he feels like he has caused her more pain than comfort. So he hopes that now, as he encourages her along the road to healing, he can finally do something worthwhile to help make her life better. I always love Son Suk Ku and this was such a cute, lighthearted role compared to his usual characters. I enjoyed him in this role and I loved the sweet chemistry he had with Kim Hye Ja.

Supporting characters

Han Ji Min as Som I

Som I is a mysterious stranger who shows up with no memory of anything except Nak Jun's name. She spends her days with Nak Jun hoping it will help her regain her memories. But she soon learns that she isn't actually a person at all, but simply a splintered piece of Hae Suk's trauma.

A Comprehensive Look at Heavenly Ever After 2025

3 things i loved about 'Heavenly Ever After'

1.

Leads:

I have so much respect for Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku. They definitely saved this drama in its weakest parts. I thought their chemistry was so touching, and I am impressed that they quickly made me stop noticing the age difference. Their natural interactions were convincing and genuine. And at almost 84 years old, Kim Hye Ja is still a Queen at the top of her game!!

2.

That Epilogue:

Wow! The epilogue at the end of this drama may very well be one of the best scenes in the whole series. The scene is filmed as a love letter from an actress at the end of a successful career and may very well serve some day as her final message to her fans. If, like Hae Suk, Kim Hye Ja dreamed of being an actress who lived many lives, I think she succeeded. Please give that woman her award!

3.

World Building:

This drama managed to establish a fairly extensive and complicated world of Heaven and Hell in 12 short episodes. I enjoyed the thought they put into building their own mythology of Heaven, life, and reincarnation. While drawing on several different religious influences, in the end they created a Heaven that was truly unique.

3 things i didn't love about 'Heavenly Ever After'

1.

Pets:

While I loved that this drama included the concept of a rainbow bridge, I found many of the pets to people scenes a bit cringey. Even as an animal lover, I couldn't muster much interest in the pet stories they created. And I'm not sure what the purpose of Sonya was. The actress looked great in the part, but I don't know what the point was.

2.

Som I:

The concept and reveal of Som I's character was interesting, but I felt like her character was rushed and left me with a lot of questions. Why would a piece of Hae Suk get sent to Hell? Why did she seem so cheerful if she was trauma personified? And how did Nak Jun recognize her enough to save her from Hell, but then not figure it out when she was living under the same roof?

3.

Ending:

So, of course I was happy that in the end Hae Suk and Nak Jun were reunited again, for good this time. But it just seemed weird that Hae Suk lived a whole life surrounded by people who seemed to love and care for her. And in the end, she died and was like "See you! I'm getting back to my real husband." I know they are soul mates, but I felt like the treatment of her "other" family felt harsh.

The Conclusion of 'Heavenly Ever After'

The Ending

'Heavenly Ever After' gives us a happy ending. But first, Hae Suk and Nak Jun agree to be reincarnated together. After finding out from the Center Director that they had been married 23 times in their lives, Nak Jun feels like he owes Hae Suk a happy life without him. So he walks her through the road to reincarnation but then tells her he doesn't intend to go with her. Hae Suk is sad but agrees to honor his wishes after he disappears.

We see Nak Jun moping around Heaven as he waits for her to come back. And he finally seems to realize that they really were happy together. Years later, we see a much older Hae Suk on her death bed. As the family says their good byes, Nak Jun shows up to take her back "home". And they agree that they never want to be separated again. The drama ends with an epilogue where Hae Suk is being interviewed for the documentary in Heaven. She says that she hopes to be reincarnated as an actress and to win an award. I hope she gets her wish.

But I did love the journey of the leads and their heartwarming interactions. I give 'Heavenly Ever After' a 7 out of 10 ramen.
