The Story

A young woman meets a wealthy CEO on a trip to Jeju. But just as things start to heat up, she is forced to drop everything and return home with no chance to explain. So she is shocked when she goes on a job interview back home, disguised as a young mother, only to find the handsome heir as her potential new boss. And although he is initially against hiring her, she soon finds herself working directly under him. And although they both feel the chemistry, they will need to clear up some very big misunderstandings, if they are going to be able to trust each other either professionally or personally.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Dynamite Kiss' is a breezy romantic comedy. The story is cute and the leads are good together. The second lead couple add a layer of sweetness. It reminds me of an old-style classic rom-com full of sweet, heart-fluttery moments and over-exagerrated misunderstandings.

If you like your dramas full of substance and logic, this is not for you. The simple plot left writers scrambling to fill screen time by presenting almost every trope known to kdrama. The drama ran at least 2 episodes longer than it should have. And the lead characters sometimes feel a bit tarnished for the sparkling rom-com image. But I enjoyed this silly, fluffy love story and although I didn't love it, I don't regret watching it. I give 'Dynamite Kiss' a 7 out of 10 ramen.

Meeting the stars: Jang Ki Yong and Ahn Eun Jin

Jang Ki Yong as Kong Ji Hyeok

Kong Ji Hyeok is a driven CEO of his own company when he goes to Jeju and meets Ko Da Rim. And even though she disappeared with no explanation, he can't stop thinking about her when he gets home. Shortly after the trip, Ji Hyeok agrees to leave his company to work at the family corporation "Natural BeBe". His first task at his new job is leading a "Mothers' Task Force" responsible for market research.

He is shocked when the woman he met in Jeju shows up for an interview as one of the mothers, and more shocked when they decide to hire her. Ji Hyeok isn't thrilled to be working with Da Rim. But he agrees to let her stay. And as he works side by side with her and her enthusiastic teammates, he falls for her even more. But misunderstanding about why she ran away and whether she is really married will need to cleared up if they are going to pursue a relationship together.

Kong Ji Hyeok is smooth and pessimitic when it comes to relationships. After watching his father use woman and break their hearts and spirits, he doesn't really believe in love anymore. But after meeting Da Rim, he begins to feel his heart changing. Jang Ki Yong handles these rich chaebol roles with a charming finesse and I thought he fit this character well.

A Safe Peek at Dynamite Kiss 2025
A Safe Peek at Dynamite Kiss 2025

Ahn Eun Jin as Ko Da Rim

Ko Da Rim has been looking for a job since she finished university, but she hasn't been successful. Because of her unemployment status, Da Rim's sister is too embarassed to invite her sister to her wedding. So her sister buys her a ticket and sends her to Jeju instead. While she is there sight-seeing, Da Rim "saves" a man she thinks is trying to kill himself. And when they accidentally kiss, the sparks start to fly. They end up spending the day together.

But when Da Rim gets a call that her sister ran away before the wedding and her mom is in the hospital, she rushes home without even telling Ji Hyeok where she is going. With her mother's hospital bills piling up and her sister gone, Da Rim gets desperate to find work. So when she sees a job at Natural BeBe that doesn't require any previous experience, she feels like this is her only chance. The only problem is that you have to be a mother. So Da Rim lies on her application and goes to the interview.

She can't believe it when Ji Hyeok is on the hiring panel. And after she begs him for a chance, he agrees to let her work for him. But she never tells him she isn't actually married or a mother. And as she works on his team, she finds falling in love with him. But they can only be together if she finds a way to tell him the truth .

Ko Da Rim is diligent and earnest, which is why having to lie to get a job weighs heavily on her. But her bright personality and her willingness to fight for her teammates help her to quickly become their team spokesperson. And she helps build the team into a cohesive, efficient group. I always like to see Ahn Eun Jin, although she can feel a bit flat in certain roles. There were a lot of inconsistencies in this character, but I though she played Da Rim well.

Supporting characters

Kim Mu Jun as Kim Seon U

Kim Seon U is Da Rim's childhood best friend. He lives in the apartment over her house with his son. He poses as Da Rim's fake husband to help her get the job at Natural BeBe. Seon U has always had romantic feelings for Da Rim but he has never expressed them and Da rim hasn't figured it out on her own. He poses as Da Rim's fake husband to help her get the job at Natural BeBe.

A Comprehensive Look at Dynamite Kiss 2025

Woo Da Vi as Yoo Ha Yeong

Yoo Ha Yeong is the wealthy daughter of a major corporation. She wants to marry Ji Hyeok and their families support the union as a business arrangement. But Ji Hyeok has never seen her as more than a younger sister and when she sees the way he looks at Da Rim, she realizes she doesn't have a chance with Ji Hyeok.

A Comprehensive Look at Dynamite Kiss 2025

Choi Kwang Il as Kong Chang Ho

Kong Chang Ho is Ji Hyeok's dad. He is the Chairman of Natural BeBe. His history with women is what soured Ji Hyeok against love and marriage, and Ji Hyeok still holds a grudge against him for it. But despite Ji Hyeok's personal feelings, Chairman Kong still wants his son to be the one taking over the family business, even though Ji Hyeok's half sister has given years to the company.

A Comprehensive Look at Dynamite Kiss 2025

3 Things I Loved About 'Dynamite Kiss'

1.

Father and Son:

I loved the few scenes we got with Seon U and Jun. They had a nice on-screen dynamic and they made Seon U seem like a really great dad. I enjoyed the way their conversations never felt like he was patronizing him. They talked like two friends. It's great to see this kind of father son interaction modeled in dramas. Especially in contrast to Ji Hyeok and his dad.

2.

Mothers' Task Force:

The best part of the business side of this drama was the great teamwork between the moms on the task force. It was fun to see how they each came from their own situations, but their common ground helped them quickly gain trust. I much prefer a story like this to one where everyone is treated like rivals all vying for promotion.

3.

Moms:

It was so cute how Ji Hyeok and Da Rim's moms met in the hospital with no idea their kids knew each other. Their sweet friendship was very touching. For someone who had been through as much as Ji Hyeok's mom to find someone she could trust and lean on must have meant the world to her. What a beautiful message about friendship and caring.

3 Things I Didn't Love About 'Dynamite Kiss'

1.

Sister:

Da Jeong's character in this drama was so weird. First, she sends her sister away because she is ashamed of her. Then she runs away before the wedding and we barely hear anything about her until she makes Da Rim come back to Jeju. I'm not sure why she needed to be there at all, since we barely saw her. And then, after chasing her all the way to Jeju, Ji Hyeok regains his memory and Da Rim just abandons the whole mission to find Da Jeong and bring her home.

2.

Tropes:

This has been talked to death but everyone seems to agree that this drama went so far overboard on tropes. There are only a handful I think they missed. And of course, the amnesia was the final straw for most people. Every rom-com throws in a few of these, but to fill episodes with meaningless tropes gets annoying in a hurry. I wish they had used that screentime to actually dive deeper into the  characters themselves.

3.

Tae Yeong:

Ji Hye was bad enough as the evil, greedy half-sister. But what in the world is up with Tae Yeong? Sure he always seemed conniving and jealous. But for him to just suddenly lose it and run over Ji Hyeok with a car seemed excessive, even for him. I just didn't feel like we saw anything from him that would make us believe he could act so violently or compulsively.

The Conclusion of 'Dynamite Kiss'

The Ending

'Dynamite Kiss' ends on a happy note. Ji Hye and Tae Yeong plan an executive meeting to show that neither Ji Hyeok or Chairman Kong are fit to lead. But In Ae storms in with the papers to prove that she is the true owner of Natural BeBe. She also serves Chang Ho with divorce papers. At first he refuses to sign but eventually he agrees and turns himself into the police.

Tae Yeong is furious that In Ae interferred with his plans. He follows Ji Hyeok out of the meeting and then runs over him with his car. Ji Hye sees the whole thing and realizes Tae Yeong is more dangerous than she had realized. Ji Hyeok is in a coma for about a month, but when he wakes up, he can't remember anything after he left for Jeju, before he met Da Rim.

Da Rim decides to give him space, holding out hope his memory will return. In the year that follows, In Ae returns Da Rim's family home to Da Rim's mom and gives Da Rim the seed money to start her own business. And then, Da Rim gets word her sister was seen in Jeju.

She rushes there and just happens to run into Ji Hyeok. His memories are stirred and all is well with the world and our happy couple. Ha Yeong tries to convince Seon U to give her a chance, but he has finally confessed his feelings to Da Rim after years. He needs time to heal. So Ha Yeong decides to go abroad to study and wait for him.

A few years later, Ha Yeong returns from her studies and shows up at Seon U's photo exhibit. And this time, when she flirts with him, he finally seems ready to move on from Da Rim and give Ha Yeong a chance. . Da Rim and Ji Hyeok have started a business together, and the Mothers' Task Force are all there as well. Go Eun and Gyeong Min are married and expecting a baby soon. Ji Hyeok and Da Rim have a couple kids of their own. The final scene shows their family at the park. The parents kiss while the kids look on, embarassed. The final credits show the cast dancing together in the same park.

The Story

A reclusive college student is visited by a Grim Reaper who was once her first love. Now, with just a week left to live, he asks her to write a bucket list of things he can help her achieve before her death. And as he stays by her side, he will try to help her overcome the grief and guilt she has carried about his death. But as her time draws near, she begins to realize how much she actually has to live for and all the things she will miss.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Way Back Love' is a heartbreaking fantasy romance about overcoming grief and guilt. This series is short, yet surprisingly full of hearty topics and complex characters. In my opinion, this gem is seriously underrated. The story is touching and the message of healing is powerful and poignant.

But even for a short 6 episode drama, this one is slow moving and the darker themes of grief and death may not be for everyone. Also, if you don't enjoy fantasy drama, the Grim Reaper element may not be for you. But I enjoyed the thought-provoking series and it has lingered with me long after the final credits.  I give 'Way Back Love' a 10 out of 10 ramen.

And as he stays by her side, he will try to help her overcome the grief and guilt she has carried about his death. Meeting the stars: Gong Myung and Kim Min Ha

Gong Myung as Kim Ram U

Kim Ram U was a transfer student at Jung Hui Wan's high school. And she becomes his best friend after an April Fool's Day prank has them trading names for the day. Over time his feelings for her deepen into something much stronger. He is hesitant to confess how he feels because he is afraid of damaging their amazing friendship. When a group of them decide to go on a trip together, Ram U decides he is ready to tell her how he feels. But Ram U's plans are ruined when he is killed in a tragic accident.

After his death, Ram U becomes a grim reaper, and while he has spotted Hui Wan on occassion, he hasn't seen her since his death. But when he sees her name on the upcoming list of deaths, as a suicide, he abandons his post to try to save her. Now he has shown up on Hui Wan's doorstep to help her complete a bucket list. But secretly, he is hoping that by doing her list, she will learn everything she has to live for and will make a different choice.

Partly because Kim Ram U and his mom have moved from place to place, Ram U is quiet and introverted. So he is immediately drawn to Hui Wan because of her exuberance and joy for life. She helps to bring him out of his shell and shows him how to laugh and find happiness. Gyong Myung is a talented actor with great emotional depth. I think he was a great fit for this shy, sensitive character.

A Safe Peek at Way Back Love 2025
A Safe Peek at Way Back Love 2025

Kim Min Ha as Jung Hui Wan

Jung Hui Wan is popular student in her school, known for her lively behavior. So when her class decides to have everyone change names for April Fools, she purposefully targets the new transfer student, Ram U. But the prank eventually leads to a long friendship and a continued use of her "borrowed" name. And when Ram U's mom becomes Hui Wan's mentor and art teacher, their friendship blossoms even more. But when Ram U is suddenly killed in a tragic accident, while using Hui Wan's name, Hui Wan is overcome with guilt and shame.

Since that time, Hui Wan has changed into a very serious and depressed college student. She has lost her will to do anything, including live. But one night, she answers her door to find Ram U on her doorstep as a grim reaper. He tells her she only has 5 days until her death. And suggests that they spend that time checking items off her bucket list together. At first, Hui Wan doesn't have much enthusiams for the project, but spending time with Ram U helps her slowly rediscover her blessings and find healing from her guilt.

Jung Hui Wan is a free spirit who draws people to her with her crazy antics and fun attitude. But she also has a serious side that loves art and is willing to put in the work  to improve. But Ram U's death weighs on her and takes all the joy from her life. Kim Min Ha is a wonderful actress and I love how expressive she can be. It is fun to see her play one character who is both happy and cheerful in the begininning and then serious and distant in later episodes. She captured both extremes well and I really enjoyed her in this role.

Supporting characters

Jung Gun Joo as Lee Hong Seok

Lee Hong Seok is Ram U's other best friend. He also has a crush on Hui Wan, although at first he doesn't realize Ram U's feelings. When he does, Hong Seok gives up on her. But after Ram U's death, Hong Seok ends up dating Hui Wan for a little while. Unfortunately, Ram U's death stands between them and they eventually break up.

A Comprehensive Look at Way Back Love 2025

Shim Eun Kyung as Ko Yeong Hyeon

Ko Yeong Hyeon is a fellow art major at Hui Wan's school. She also lost someone she loved and because of this, she can somehow see grim reapers. So when she sees Ram U hanging around Hui Wan, Yeong Hyeon realizes Hui Wan's life is in trouble, and she sets out to try to save her

A Comprehensive Look at Way Back Love 2025

Seo Young Hee as Kim Jeong Suk

Kim Jeong Suk is Ram U's mother. She had Ram U out of wedlock, after finding out her boyfriend was actually a married man. Jeong Suk is an artist, and she agrees to give Hui Wan art lessons to try to help her get into art college. But after Ram U's death, Jeong Suk moves away and Hui Wan loses contact with her.

A Comprehensive Look at Way Back Love 2025

3 things i loved about 'Way Back Love'

1.

A Story that Sticks:

For me, this story was so powerful and touching. The themes of healing and grief stuck with me long after I finished watching it. I appreciated the honest, raw emotions and the heartwarming relationships.

2.

Short but Meaty:

This drama did an incredible job of putting so much substance in just 6 episodes. Both the characters and their stories are complex and interesting. I feel like the pacing is consistent and the characters are relatable. The drama also delivers a message of hope without sugarcoating the effects of grief and loss.

3.

Kim Min Ha:

Kim Min Ha is amazing in this drama. Her abilitiy to portray such a full range of emotions with just one character is admirable and I really feel like this is a standout performance for this talented actress.

3 things i didn't love about 'Way Back Love'

1.

Ko Yeong Hyeon:

Ko Yeong Hyeon's character didn't feel very clear to me. There is mention of the fact that she also lost someone. So does that mean Hui Wan will also see grim reapers from now on? Some thought Yeong Hyeon might be the daughter of the reaper the others were talking about that disappeared, and that she was the one he broke the rules to help. But there was nothing to prove that theory.  I wish we knew just a little more about how and why she could see Ram U and supposedly other reapers.

2.

Hong Seok:

I don't really think they should have had Hong Seok date Hui Wan after Ram U's death. It doesn't really fit in with the rest of the story, in my opinion, and it doesn't have any impact on the story of Ram U and Hui Wan. Having Hong Seok get his heart broken twice over Hui Wan's feelings for Ram U seems harsh and unnecessary.

3.

Ram U's Fate:

I was so sad when they showed us the scene of the reapers talking about the punishment for reapers getting involved in worldly affairs. We know that Ram U is obviously breaking the rules to help Hui Wan, but surely his success in saving her life should count for something. Are we really to assume that Ram U just evaporates into nothingness for his rule breaking? I would hate to think that is true. Having to leave Hui Wan again must have been painful enough. I can only hope he goes on with his duty as a compassionate and caring reaper.

The Conclusion of 'Way Back Love'

The Ending

'Way Back Love' gives us the bittersweet ending we had to expect. There is no magic spell that brings Ram U back to life, but he does manage to convince Hui Wan that her life is worth living. He comes back for one final goodbye on the rooftop where she had considered jumping. And then he is gone again. But Hui Wan has grown strong enough and healed enough to continue on without him and find happiness in herself.

A year later, we see that Hui Wan seems more like her old self. She has reconnected with her old friends and continued her friendship with Yeong Hyeon. She also finally finished her senior exhibit, using Ram U's handwriting as the basis for her typography project. In a voiceover, she promises Ram U that she will remember him and keep on living, because she now understands that loving herself is also loving him.

Also, if you don't enjoy fantasy drama, the Grim Reaper element may not be for you. But I enjoyed the thought-provoking series and it has lingered with me long after the final credits.  I give 'Way Back Love' a 10 out of 10 ramen.

The Story

A woman's dreams are shattered when she has to call off her wedding after she catches her fiance having an affair. When she wins a free "newlywed" house, she refuses to give up her dream home just because she lost her husband. So, when she meets a man with the same name as her ex, she begs him to help her by posing as her new spouse. Unfortunately, things get even more awkward when she finds out her new "fake" husband is also her newest contract client for her advertising company. And as the pair build a relationship, both personal and professional, they will discover that they share an unexpected past connection.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Would You Marry Me' is a light romantic comedy that is perfect for a quick, easy watch. The leads are both great in this genre and their chemistry was fun and natural. This show is at it's best when they keep things sweet and simple and just allow us to watch our leads' story unfold. It is exactly what you would expect from a modern Kdrama rom-com, and for some that will be a plus.

But for others, the trope-heavy lack of originality may be disappointing. As a long-time fan of both these leads, I can say it certainly isn't either of their best dramas. The story lacks any real stand-out moments and some of the supporting actors and their stories are irritating. But if you are looking for a breezy rom-com to pass the time, Choi Woo Shik and Jung So Min deliver enough heart-fluttering moments to make this a worthwhile watch. I give 'Would You Marry Me' a 7 out of 10 ramen.

Meeting the stars: Choi Woo Shik and Jung So Min

Choi Woo Shik as Kim U Ju

Kim U Ju lost his parents in a car accident when he was young. He miraculously survived the accident, but it took it's toll on him emotionally. Thanks to his extended family, U Ju is an heir to one of the oldest bakeries in the country. He has spent the last few years in the U.S., away from his greedy family and their constant vying for the business. But now he has returned home and is determined to get involved in the running of the company. He also wants to prove that his parent's death was not an accident at all, and make sure the guilty party is held responsible.

On his first day back in Korea, U Ju has a run-in with a drunk woman who confuses him for her ex, who happens to have the same name as him. Later this same woman shows up at his office as their new marketing partner. And when she approaches him with an offer to pose as her fake husband, he gives in and agrees, against his better judgement. But as he gets sucked into her life's dramas, he finds himself unable to stop from falling for her. And when he finds out she is actually his elementary school first love, he begins to believe that they are fated to be together.

Kim U Ju was seriously scarred by the sudden death of his parents, and the lack of love and compassion from his family. And as he investigates what really happened the night of his parents' deaths, he learns that his family is absolutely not to be trusted. Choi Woo Shik is a great actor and I really enjoy him in rom-coms. He portrays that sensitive, intuitive character so well, and I felt like he fit this part perfectly.

A Safe Peek at Would You Marry Me 2025
A Safe Peek at Would You Marry Me 2025

Jung So Min as Yoo Me Ri

Yoo Me Ri spent all the time and money she had to plan her dream wedding to Kim U Ju, only to discover her fiance having an affair, just before the ceremony. After they break up,  Me Ri also finds out that the apartment her mother helped her buy for their first home was a scam. But while she is wallowing in heartbreak and grief, she gets a call that she won a drawing for a brand-new honeymoon house in an elite neighborhood. But she has to bring her husband to sign all the paperwork to take ownership.

Me Ri owns her own marketing company, and about the same time that her wedding falls apart, she starts a new contract with a major bakery business. And when she shows up for her first in-person meeting, she meets her new boss, who also happens to have the same name as her ex. Me Ri comes up with a plan to have a contract wedding with this new U Ju, just until she can sell the house and buy a new place to live.

In the meantime, they plan to keep their supposed marriage a secret from everyone they know, so they can easily go their separate ways when it's finished. But things don't go according to plan, and Me Ri finds her life becoming more entangled with U Ju. And when they decide to make their relationship marriage real, they encounter some unexpected resistance from U Ju's family.

Yoo Me Ri is a hard-worker who has grown her business from the ground up. She is resilient and creative. She was raised by a single mother, and as an adult, she tries to keep her mom from finding out anything that would cause her to worry. Jung So Min is one of my absolute favorites, and she is a rom-com queen. She portrays this kind of quirky, down-on-her-luck lead with just the right balance of charm and pathetic backstory.

Supporting characters

Seo Bum June as Kim U Ju

Kim U Ju is Me Ri's fiance before he cheats on her with a rich heiress. After their break-up, U Ju goes abroad with his new girlfriend. But he comes home after she dumps him, hoping Me Ri will take him back.

A Comprehensive Look at Would You Marry Me 2025

Shin Seul Ki as Yun Jin Gyeong

Yun Jin Gyeon is the private doctor to U Ju's family. She studied abroad with U Ju when they were young and has has been in love with him for years. He has never seen her as more than a close friend or younger sister. But U Ju's grandmother tries to bring the two of them together.

A Comprehensive Look at Would You Marry Me 2025

Bae Na Ra as Baek Sang Hyeon

Baek Sang Hyeon works for as an executive for the department store where that offered the contest Me Ri won. Sang Hyeon was pressured by his boss to try to rig the contest. And when he fails, his boss orders him to find a way to take the house back from Me Ri.

A Comprehensive Look at Would You Marry Me 2025

3 things i loved about 'Would You Marry Me'

1.

Unspoiled Heir:

It's not easy to find a Kdrama where the rich heir who marries the poor girl is also humble and kind. U Ju never acts superior or lords his position over his team members or Me Ri. Despite being a potential heir, he is also an underdog of sorts, and that gives the story some nice heart.

2.

Second-Lead Couple:

I really enjoyed Jin Gyeong and Sang Hyeon. They each had a lot of growing to do through the course of this drama, and while I would have loved to see more of them, I enjoyed the bits that we did get to see. I just wish they would have admitted their growing feelings earlier so we could have more scenes of them together.

3.

Fun Chemistry:

Choi Woo Shik and Jung So Min both shine in this kind of easy-going rom-com, and it's always a joy to watch them build chemistry with their co-stars. They did a nice job of keeping the humor light and the romance sweet. And it's hard for me to complain with this charming duo on my screen, even if the story didn't always meet my expectation.

3 things i didn't love about 'Would You Marry Me'

1.

Excessive Supporting Cast:

While I loved the second lead couple, there were way too many other supporting characters. Me Ri's ex should have went away as soon as they broke up. He never deserved the kindness and patience Me Ri gave him. And don't even get me started on his mom and sister. They were absolutely infuriating. Also, U Ju's family was horrible. And yet, in the end, we are supposed to just forgive his aunt and cousin because they have decided to start being nice! All of this characters just felt like a waste of screen time.

2.

Coincidences:

I know that coincidences and misunderstanding are kind of the foundation of most rom-coms, but this drama really tests the limits with the extreme number of them. Me Ri just happens to run into a stranger in the middle of the city, who just happens to have the same name as her ex, who just happens to be her childhood friend, and who just happens to be her future boss. And that's just for starters.

3.

Cohabitation:

For a drama that was supposed to be about fake marriage and winning a house, there were remarkable few scenes of Me Ri and U Ju spending time in their home. I just expected more scenes of them getting cozy at home and less office time.

The Conclusion of 'Would You Marry Me'

The Ending

'Would You Marry Me' wraps everything up in a neat, happy bow. U Ju exposes his uncle, and finds a random loop hole that makes it possible for him to still get the death penalty for his actions. Eung Soo voluntarily gives up his rights to inherit the family business to pursue his dream to have an Esport company. And U Ju's grandmother eventually accepts Me Ri as a partner for U Ju. Sang Hyeon confesses to his crimes and gets a year in prison, but he spends his time behind bars corresponding with Jin Gyeong. And Jin Gyeong takes care of his turtles!

One year later, U Ju and Me Ri are finally getting married for real. Everyone is there to support them, including a newly released Sang Hyeon, who meets Jin Gyeong there for the first time since his release. Me Ri's mom's restaurant has taken off, thanks to So Ri's social media work. U Ju's aunt looks like she might consider So Ri as a potential match for Eung Soo. And as Me Ri and U Ju prepare to walk down the aisle, we see a flashback of their story with a voice-over about how blessings often come as a result of misfortune, but they have found happiness at last, together.

The Story

In 1997, as the IMF crisis is just hitting Korea, a young man's father passes away, leaving him to run the family's small trading business. As he finds himself responsible for a company he knows nothing about running and a handful of devoted employees who are counting on him to save the floundering business, he resolves to do everything he can to make his late father proud of him. And he is happy to find an office worker who his father trusted, who is willing to help guide him on his new adventure

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Typhoon Family' is a business rom-com with a modern historical twist. The drama focuses around a group of employees trying to weather the IMF crisis, and a young, inexperience man who suddenly becomes their boss. It is a classic underdog series about teamwork and perserverence. Lee Jun Ho does most of the heavy lifting for this story, and he is irresistibly charming. The color palette and props set the perfect 1990's mood and the family elements are heartwarming.

But this is a pretty typical, light-weight rom-com. The business emphasis can be a bit slow and boring at times, and the story arcs get kind of repetitive, especially in the second half of the drama. The villain story feels one-dimensional and unreasonably extreme. But if you are looking for a simple business and family oriented rom-com, this one is a sweet, feel-good drama. I give 'Typhoon Family' an 8 out of 10 ramen.

And he is happy to find an office worker who his father trusted, who is willing to help guide him on his new adventure

Meeting the stars: Lee Jun Ho and Kim Min Ha

Lee Jun Ho as Kang Tae Pung

Kang Tae Pung  has spent his early adulthood hanging out with his friends and going to clubs. He had no interest in learning about his father's company or the people who worked for him. But in 1997, as the nation is slammed with financial bankruptcy and the business is about to go under, Tae Pung's father unexpectedly dies.

Suddenly he finds himself in charge of Typhoon Trading Company, with no idea how to run it. And their professional rivals are capitalizing on every mistake he makes. Luckily, he earns the trust of O Mi Seon, an office worker who was liked and respected by his father. And together, they work to save the company and the jobs of their employees.

Kang Tae Pung is a confident young man who has lived off of the success of his father. But when his father dies, leaving him in responsible for not just the company, but also his mother, Tae Pung is forced to grow up and assume the role of CEO and head of the household.  Lee Jun Ho has mastered the rom-com hero role, and I thought he was a perfect fit for this character. His cheeky smile and smooth mannerisms sold the part and brought some irresistible charm to the role.

A Safe Peek at Typhoon Family 2025
A Safe Peek at Typhoon Family 2025

Kim Min Ha as O Mi Seon

O Mi Seon and her siblings were raised by their grandmother. She works as an office assistant at Typhoon Trading Company while she prepares to take the college entrance exam. She is good at her job and her boss often praises her instincts and skills. But when he suddenly passes away, leaving his immature and inexperienced son, Tae Pung, to run the business, Mi Seon fears there may be no way to save the company from financial ruin.

But when Tae Pung comes to her and sincerely asks for her help in learning the ropes of the trading company, she sees of glimmer of hope that they may be able to save Typhoon Trading Company and the small group of employees who work there. Tae Pung gives her a promotion to trader, and together she and Tae Pung begin to find ways to garner business and raise much needed capital.

O Mi Seon is level-headed and ambitious. She has been the head of her family since she was young, and years of experience have given her a great head for business. And without her input, Tae Pung would have never been able to run Typhoon Trading Company. Kim Min Ha is an interesting actress and I have enjoyed the few roles I have seen her in. Her natural appearance is a welcome change from the picture-perfect stereotype we have come to expect in kdrama and I love that about her. She played this character with a seriousness that felt fitting to her story and realistic.

Supporting characters

Kim Min Seok as Wang Nam Mo

Wang Nam Mo is Tae Pung's best friend. He does odd jobs and later helps his mother to open a cafe, but his dream is to be a singer. Nam Mo falls in love with Mi Seon's sister, Mi Ho and she tries to help him realize his dream.

A Comprehensive Look at Typhoon Family 2025

Moo Jin Sung as Pyo Hyeon Jun

Pyo Hyeon Jun is the son of Typhoon Company's main rival. He hates Tae Pung and has always wanted to destroy him, his family, and his business. But his personal vendetta often gets in the way of him making sound business decisions.

A Comprehensive Look at Typhoon Family 2025

Lee Chang Hoon as Ko Ma Jin

Ko Ma Jin is the Sales Department manager at Typhoon Trading Company. He is good at his job, but sometimes his tendency to cut corners ends up costing the business. He also acts condesending to Mi Seon, until Tae Pung steps in.

A Comprehensive Look at Typhoon Family 2025

3 things i loved about 'Typhoon Family'

1.

Fun 90's Vibe:

This drama did a nice job of creating a cool 90's aesthetic. The colors, the styles, and the props all give off that perfect nostalgia vibe, without having to constantly remind us this isn't the 2000's. The tone felt natural within the context of the story and I really enjoyed it.

2.

Family Relationships:

Although this is more of a business drama, there were some great family stories as well. I particularly liked Tae Pung's mother, Jeong Mi, and her adjustment from rich socialite to nuturing caregiver. The family dynamics are rich and touching, and I'm glad they included them into this rom-com.

3.

Staggered Returns:

I'm glad this drama resisted the urge to just bring all the employees back to Typhoon Trading Company at the same time. Instead, they drew it out and used the time to give us a bit of backstory about each character, along with the how and why they could come back.

3 things i didn't love about 'Typhoon Family'

1.

CEO Kang:

I love Sung Dong Il and the bright warmth he brings to every drama he is in. So I was disappointed that they killed him off so soon. I would have liked more of the wise, understanding CEO, even if it was just in flashbacks and dreams.

2.

Pyo Hyeon Jun:

As a villian, Hyeon Jun felt too extreme and one dimensional. They never really give us an explanation about why he hates Tae Pung, and jealousy seems too general for such obsessive behaviors. Also, I get that he never felt accepted or respected by his dad, but you have to be a sick individual to almost kill your own father and then lock him in a storage compartment for days on end.

3.

Company Employees:

I was kind of sad to see Ma Jin's lazy shortcuts and Seon Taek's betrayal. Bringing out these negative qualities seemed to belittle the time and devotion that Tae Pung's father had put into creating a welcoming, family-like environment in his business. It created a doubt that maybe CEO Kang was not the great businessman everyone had believed.

The Conclusion of 'Typhoon Family'

The Ending

'Typhoon Family' gives us a clean, happy ending. Tae Pung finally finds his father's promisery note. He strikes a deal with Bak Ho that he can keep his company if he just gives Tae Pung Typhoon Trading back. Bak Ho grudginly goes along with it, and gives the police everything they need to arrest Hyeon Jun. And with that, Tae Pung returns to the company, with the overwhelming approval of his employees. Their approval is less forthcoming when the group finds out Tae Pung and Mi Seon are dating, but they slowly accept the new development.

Tae Pung's mom passes on Tae Pung's offer to find a new house, choosing, for now, to stay with Mi Seon's family, where she has found purpose and joy. And when the time comes to move, she hopes to find a new house big enough for all of them. Nam Mo and Mi Ho get back together, and Nam Mo decides to continue following his dream of becoming a singer.

Then we jump ahead to 2001, where we come full circle with Typhoon Trading Company filming a commercial, but this time Tae Pung sits at the head. Then Tae Pung and Mi Seon rush off to a business meeting at the university, where Tae Pung shows off his sophisticated CEO vibe. O Beom wins the class award for most congenial, as Jeong Mi watches proudly. The final scene shows the office members walking down the street together as we get a final voice-over from Tae Pung. He says that he hasn't given up on growing flowers. It's just that his flowers are now the lives of his employess.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

The Story

A variety show PD and her two college friends are living the life of single women in their 30's. And as they juggle the pressures and demands of work and dating, they rely on their friendship to keep them from falling into despair. Most days, the trio find themselves drinking together at their favorite bar and restaurant, where they had won free drinks for life back in university. But as life becomes more and more complicated for each of them, their relationships with each other will be challenged and they will be forced to make some important decisions about what is really important.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings

'Work Later Drink Now' is a chaotic romantic comedy that takes a realistic view of life as single, 30 year old women. The humor is clever and laugh out loud funny. Although the two seasons have a total of 24 episodes, each episode is only 30 minutes. So this is a great bingeable series! I loved how the three friends were all so different and quirky.

But this kind of raw humor might not be for everyone. Also, if you are the kind of person who can't watch excessive drinking without worrying endlessly about the state of Korean drinking culture, this is definitely not for you.  These gals drink...A LOT! But I enjoyed the light, humorous stories and the focus on friendship. I give 'Work Later Drink Now' an 8 out of 10 ramen.
