The Story
A single mom has spent her life struggling to make ends meet to provide for her family, while hoping to fulfill her dream of becoming a full time PE teacher. So she is shocked and hurt when her children come to her and beg her to get married so that they can have a rich and handsome dad. For their sake, she agrees to try, but things get complicated when a picky male lodgers moves into their room upstairs. Though they don’t get off to a great start, living together brings them closer and feelings start to develop for both of them. But someone who needs lodging in their home is obviously not rich and will not pass the test for her children. Or is there more to his story than they assume?
Should I Watch
It should go without saying that these long family dramas are not for everyone, and the 122 episode version in particular. I grew up watching American style soap operas with my mom, and these feel very similar. Mom Has an Affair features long drawn out plots about birth secrets and double identities, overly dramatic acting and facial expressions, and in between it all, a star-crossed love story. Maybe it’s the feeling of nostalgia for me, but I enjoy the ride, long though it may be. I also enjoy getting to know a whole family at one time. It gives some variation to the storylines, which is nice. If you have the patience and enjoy a longer format, Mom Has An Affair was a good story with some good characters and some hateable villains. I’m giving it 2 out of 5 ramen.
