The Story
A young man from a poor family rises through the ranks of the legal system and finds himself siding with the corrupt and greedy to get ahead. But one day he is killed by a powerful enemy and finds himself transported 10 years into the past, with all of his past memories intact. Now he will have a chance to go back and become the person he had always hoped to be. And this time, maybe he can bring some justice back into the world of law and politics.
Should I Watch
'The Judge Returns' is a time-travel legal drama that focuses on corruption and justice. Ji Sung gives another impassioned performance that gives us great courtroom scenes with a nice amount of revenge. The secondary cast has some memorable characters and the pace is fairly fast and steady. I appreciated the balance between interesting legal cases and personal character development.
But this plot concept is certainly not new. If you found this summary sounding like a mash up between the 2022 dramas "Again My Life' and 'Reborn Rich' you would be absolutely right. The villains feel one-dimensional and fairly predictable. And the vague nod to romance seemed unsatisfactory and forced. But if you like a good second-chance revenge story, Ji Sung never disappoints. I give 'The Judge Returns' a 3 out of 5 ramen.
