My Personal Thoughts and Ratings
‘Typhoon Family’ is a business rom-com with a modern historical twist. The drama focuses around a group of employees trying to weather the IMF crisis, and a young, inexperience man who suddenly becomes their boss. It is a classic underdog series about teamwork and perserverence. Lee Jun Ho does most of the heavy lifting for this story, and he is irresistibly charming. The color palette and props set the perfect 1990’s mood and the family elements are heartwarming.
But this is a pretty typical, light-weight rom-com. The business emphasis can be a bit slow and boring at times, and the story arcs get kind of repetitive, especially in the second half of the drama. The villain story feels one-dimensional and unreasonably extreme. But if you are looking for a simple business and family oriented rom-com, this one is a sweet, feel-good drama. I give ‘Typhoon Family’ an 8 out of 10 ramen.
