Welcome to the Weekly Update – August 5 – 11. This week we welcome home Nam Da Reum, which is a great gift to all kdrama fans. We saw one drama finale and two premieres. Military News
Nam Da Reum
Actor Nam Da Reum finished his military service on August 7th and was officially discharged. The young actor made the decision to enlist in February of last year, even though he was only 19 years old at the time. The actor said that serving in the military had been a goal for him from the time he was young. But fans are delighted to have him back and look forward to seeing him on the small screen soon. Welcome home Nam Da Rem! We missed you.

Hwang Minhyun
Hwang Minhyun will star in the upcoming action thriller “Study Group”. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the drama tells the story of a young man who looks like a model student, but isn’t afraid to use his fists to defend his friends. “Study Group” will air some time later this year.
Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, and Moon So Ri
Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, and Moon So Ri will appear in the upcoming historical drama “Jeong Nyeon”. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the drama will take place in the 1950’s when a young woman from a small town goes to Seoul to follow her dreams of becoming a famous traditional Korean opera singer. Jeong Nyeon” is expecting to premiere some time in 2024.
Chani, Han Seung Yeon, Son Woo Hyun, and Park Won Sang
SF 9’s Chani, Han Seung Yeon, Son Woo Hyun, and Park Won Sang will join Go Ah Sung and Jang Ryul along with a host of other stars for the upcoming historical romance “The Love Story of Chunhwa”. The story focuses on a young princess who sets out to find her own marriage partner instead of relying on her father, the King, to make the choice for her. “The Love Story of Chunhwa” will be released some time next year.
Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Young Kwang, and Shin Jae Ha
Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Young Kwang, and Shin Jae Ha will star in the upcoming action noir drama “Biography of the Wicked”. The drama tells the story of a poor lawyer who is swayed by the appeal of gang life and is transformed into an evil villain. “Biography of the Wicked” will air some time next month.
Lee Sun Kyun, Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Moo Yeol, and Lee Kwang Soo
Lee Sun Kyun, Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Moo Yeol, and Lee Kwang Soo will be appearing in the upcoming mystery thriller “No Way Out”. The drama is about a bounty of 20 billion won that is placed on the head of a horrible murderer who is released from prison after 13 years. “No Way Out” is set to start filming in October and should premiere some time next year.

BTS’ V can’t let go in his new single “Love Me Again”. This stripped down groovy ballad mesmerizes with the singers deep honeyed tones. The simple guitar and percussion keep a nice beat without taking the focus from V’s wispy vocal skills. The MV shows the singer dressed in a gold sequined turtleneck as he stands at the mic and sings in the middle of a dark cave.

Wormhole
n.SSign makes their official debut with the new single “Wormhole”. This industrial sounding track features a sparce chaotic sound that keeps you off-kilter for the whole 4 minutes. But as the vocal harmonies kick in, we do get some framework to hang those haunting jabs of circular synth. The MV features bright neon colors and agressive choreography.
JO YURI
TAXI
JO YURI is ready to go in her new single “TAXI”. This bubbly dance pop track is exuberant and fun. The low register piano flourishes compliment the singers bright airy vocals. The beat has a slight old school R&B groove that gives the song a bouncy movement and makes it feel roller-rink ready. The MV shows the singer getting ready for a fun day out, but no license, so taxi!
JAEHYUN
Horizon
NCT’s JAEHYUN is hoping to ascend the clouds in his new single “Horizon”. This calm pop R&B track features quiet snares and dreamy synth, as JAEHYUN’S beatuiful deep vocals bring a peaceful vibe. The lyrics are about wanting to rise up above the clouds to a place where everything is still and restful. The MV shows the singer walking, running and riding along at a nice easy pace as he gazes at the sky overhead.
JEON SOMI
Fast Forward
JEON SOMI is back after a 2 year hiatus, looking like a goddess in her new single “Fast Forward”. This big production deep house dance track is electrifying, with plonky snyth sounds and bright percussion. The MV shows the singer wishing she could fast forward through all of her heartbreak and failed relationships to find her true lover.
THE BOYZ
LIP GLOSS
THE BOYZ are looking for some tropical romance in their title track “LIP GLOSS”. This playful pop track is sugary sweet and perfect for a day on the beach. The sound is light and catchy with some nice melodies. The MV shows the group on a beach vacation where they all fall for the same beautiful girl, but in the end she only leads them on.
ARTBEAT v
DUBI DUBI
ARTBEAT v is ready to bounce in their new single “DUBI DUBI”. This upbeat pop track has a fresh new jack swing sound, with bright synths and snare drums. The crisp sound rolls along with an infectious groovy beat. The MV is full of bright colors and energetic choreography as the group dances in an old garage full of graffiti.

The romantic comedy”King the Land” finished on August 6th. An optimistic young woman goes to work at a hotel that her family used to visit when she was a child. But she quickly runs into conflict with the good looking hotel heir.
Elegant Empire
The 100 episode weekday family drama “Elegant Empire” premiered on August 7th. A woman who rose out of poverty to marry a CEO and become a model wife and mother suddenly has her life stolen out from under her. Now she is determined to get revenge on all those who betrayed her.
Moving
The hulu supernatural action thriller “Moving” premiered on August 9th. Three high school students from the same school bear superpowers that they hide from the rest of the world. Luckily, since their powers were inherited from their parents, they have people close by who want to protect them and their secrets.
