The Story
After winning a music reality show, Wang Joon Hyuk is on top of the world. But it all comes crashing in when his prize money is stolen by the person he trusts the most. Now, 12 years later, his sister reaches out to him out of the blue to ask for help taking care of his nephew. When Joon Hyuk learns how difficult life is for them right now, he decides to move in with his sister and try to help her and her son heal from years of abuse and mistreatment. Along the way he may also be able to find healing for himself and a new lease on life, love, and career.
Should I Watch
“Uncle” is a heartwarming family drama about healing and second chances. This drama does a nice job of blending romance, family drama, comedy and music all into one series. But the heart of this one lies in the relationship between the uncle and his young nephew. Oh Jung Se is awkwardly charming, as usual, and his chemistry with the young actor, Lee Kyung Hoon, is touching. This show does touch on the topic of domestic violence and abuse, so for those who are sensitive to it, you may want to sit this one out. My main complaint with this drama is that I think they would have benefitted by sticking to a 12 episode format. Things definitely got a bit weird toward the end and they seemed to be straining to find enough material. But if you enjoy a feel-good, family-driven drama, this one has enough bright spots to make it worth your while. I give “Uncle” an 8 out of 10 ramen.
