The Story
Hera’s Palace is a 100 floor luxury apartment in the heart of Seoul. It is home to the rich and powerful. While the parents all dream of being rich enough to live in the coveted top floor penthouse, the children compete at the prestigious Cheon Ah Art School, hoping for the opportunity to study music at Seoul National University. In this highly competitve world, betrayals are commonplace and anyone can be used as a stepping stone as they claw their way to the top.
Should I Watch
“The Penthouse” is like the old-school American night soap operas. It is extreme, over the top melodrama where everyone has the chance of having a twin and “death” is never really final. If you don’t enjoy this kind of exaggerated stories and acting, then I doubt you will want to invest in all 48 episodes. On the plus side, the cast, especially the three female leads, are spectacular (With Kim So Yeon taking Best Actress at the Baeksang Awards) and the high budget provides for elaborate sets and costuming. It is a chaotic ride full of twists and turns that are so far-fetched, you probably didn’t see them coming! I give “The Penthouse” an 8 out of 10 ramen.
