The Story
A researcher who has dedicated years to studying potatoes is challenged when her small country reasearch lab is purchased by a major corporation she used to work for. And when the company brings in a new director tasked with cutting costs, her future seems bleak. But when her new boss rents a room in her family guesthouse, the pair are forced to at least try to keep the peace and work together for the good of the lab.

My Personal Thoughts and Ratings
‘The Potato Lab’ is a breezy romantic comedy. The quirky cast of country researchers is amusing and Kang Tae Oh is absolutely charming as the company executive known for his ability to cut costs without letting his personal feelings interfere. The romance is sweet and the story is engaging and simple.
I found the humor a bit obvious and cringy, particlarly at the beginning. Parts of the plot felt underdeveloped and too cliche, and the characters’ action sometimes lacked consistency. It’s not a complex plot with deep character development, but this is a fun drama if you are looking for a sweet, uncomplicated love story. I give ‘The Potato Lab’ a 7 out of 10.

Lee Sun Bin debuted in 2011 as a singer in the girl group JQT. She began her acting career doing advertisements and music videos before taking a guest role in the romantic web series ‘ Dr. Ian’. Her first starring role came in 2017 in the psychological crime drama ‘Criminal Minds’. Other popular dramas she has starred in include the 2023 historical action drama ‘Boyhood’ and the 2021 comedy drama ‘Work Later, Drink Now’. Look for her to star in the upcoming romantic comedy ‘Let’s Go to the Moon’ scheduled to premiere in August.

Kang Tae Oh is a singer and actor. He was the lead vocalist for the group 5URPRISE before turning his focus to acting. He debuted as a guest actor in the 2011 romantic drama ‘A Clinic for Married Couples: Love and War 2’ before landing his first lead role in the 2013 fantasy drama ‘After School: Lucky or Not’. Other popular dramas he has starred in include the 2020 romantic drama ‘Run On’ and the 2019 historical rom-com ‘The Tale of Nokdu’. Look for him to star in the upcoming historical fantasy drama ‘The Moon Flows Over the River’ scheduled to air in October.
